The ONLY place official place for updates on Cancellation, Next Year, Refunds, Future events

Hey Folks,

I apologize for the length of time without an update. I will address 3 items about the Swingin’ Into Swing event ... and 2 items regarding the dance program here in Connecticut. I have rewritten parts of this at least twice a week for the last 6 weeks, so This is the “Official” policy as of 04/24/2020.

1) Previously stated - All current registrations will be transferred to the 2021 SiS Event

2) Refund Policy

3) Donations

4) Future planned events

5) Friday Night Dances

1) Swingin' Into Spring 2021 will be held - April 29 - May 2, 2021 - What we have done is set up the registration as if this year’s event was going to happen, and pushed it forward to the 2021 event. As you all know, I give away little gifts to all attendees at the door. For those who "Let it ride" for next year, I will be doing something special. Once I know where I stand with numbers, I'll make a decision as to what that commemoration item will be.

2) Refund Policy - This is the reason I have not posted recently. I have exhausted all my current options trying to figure this out. As of now, this is the situation.

Just to be clear - Nobody's money will be "Forfeited" ... although refunds will take a while to get to people. This a little embarrassing, because I've never been in this position before.

I have paid a lot more towards the expenses of event, than income brought in from the passes so far ... thus the balance came from savings. The hotel is applying deposits to 2021, the airlines are allowing the airfare paid to be used next year, (As with most other expenses paid) ... But ... they now all have my payments and none of them are writing me refund checks.

To make matters worse, I have no income at the moment. Savings have been exhausted with the $20,000+ in expenses paid and the losses from the last workshop series I ran. I have stepped up my activity as best I can, but due to the nature of my business it takes anywhere from 45-90 days to get paid on a case once the paperwork is done. As soon as cash starts coming in, I'll be sending refunds. Priority will go to those who laid out thousands of dollars buying table seating, but as I stated previously, no monies will be forfeited.

3) Donations - It is against my nature to even admit that I need, much less ask, for financial assistance. Even when I was starting out ... way back in the beginning when I could have filed for unemployment and possibly food stamps & insurance assistance, I never did.

Yes, there will be a few thousand dollars in unrecoverable costs ... but as I have learned over the last 35 years ... that is the reality of running a business. With that that said, my concern is getting refunds back into the hands of those who do need the money during this time of uncertainty.

There have been a few folks who have said "Keep the money", and in a couple of cases sent some donations. Again, there will be some recognition of those who do help out. I have a few ideas ... t-shirts, etc., etc. ... but nothing solid yet. I will post if I do have the need to go forward with some sort of fundraiser.

4) Future planned events - I am leaving the various workshop weekends and Pure Dance Connecticut on the schedule for now. If we get to the point where "Social Distancing" is no longer necessary, I will run the events. I will not be advertising any events until I know I will be able to run them.

5) Friday Night Dances - Once again ... until it is safe to run them, Friday Night Swing will stay closed. I've had more than one person suggesting that we should run them and have everybody wear masks & gloves. As humorous as the suggestion was, the more I thought about it ... that may be what has to happen when we start up again. "IF" there is a "Halloween Dance", I think we should have a Doctors, Nurses & First Responders theme. Everybody dresses as doctors, nurses, paramedics, etc., etc. ... Just a thought.

Anyhow, as soon as I know more, I will make the appropriate announcements. In the meantime, do what you have to do to keep yourself healthy, and keep your fingers crossed that this version of "American Horror Story" ends sooner or later.

Thank you all for the last 27&1/2 years of fun & friendship. Hopefully we all will be back together again soon,

Ken Mercik
